About Tskaltubo

Tskaltubo Municipality is a self-governing entity in Imereti region.

It became an official balneological resort in 1920, and was declared a town in 1953.

It is located in the central part of Imereti.

The municipality is bordered to the east by Kutaisi, to the west by Samtredia and Khoni municipalities and to the south by Bagdati and Vani municipalities.

The defining phydico-geographical factor of the terrain is the inclusion of a wide oval shaped weeping with a structural basin mineral spring, which is surrounded on all sides by mountains.

The main forms of terrain is plain-hilly.

The following rivers flow in Tskaltubo territory: Gubistskali, Tskaltubo.

There are 43 settlements in Tskaltubo: 1 town, 42 villages.

The main transport hub of the municipality is Tskaltubo, which is connected by roads to Kutaisi, Khoni, Tsageri, Tkibuli. Town is connected to Kutaisi by a railway line.

Tskaltubo is a multi-purpose, world-class balneological resort, and water with a unique radon content is an important resource for its economy, water has always attracted visitors.

Tskaltubo is interesting for tourists because of the underground beauty of the karst caves: “Sataplia Cave” and “Prometheus Cave” and with factors characteristic of medical speleology.

Geguti palace is located in Tskaltubo municipality, it is a monument of the Georgian secular architecture of the feudal age (X-XI century).

Museum of named after Academician Giorgi Akhvlediani  locates in Tskaltubo,the house-museum of writer Niko Lortkipanidze locates in the village of Chuneshi, the house-museum of Giorgi Akhvlediani locates in the village of Derchi.
